Theatre and Film Studies

Theatre and Film Studies is located on the second floor of Fine Arts block two. Staff and postgraduate offices, a seminar room and editing suite are located on this floor. Students can also collect and return filming equipment from here.

On the first floor of Fine Arts block two is the administration office for the Centre for Fine Arts, Music and Theatre.

Arts Centre MapTheatre classes above stage one take place in the University Theatre and Nibelheim in the Arts Centre of Christchurch*, and in Old Queen's Theatre on Hereford Street*.

Postgraduate students have work spaces on the second floor of Fine Arts block two and Te Puna Toi in the Arts Centre*.

Te Puna Toi*

Te Puna Toi is the Christchurch home for the New Zealand Film Archive's public video library, Vaccess. Located in the Old Library Building in the Arts Centre (see diagram), Vaccess is a free facility where members of the public can view over 200 titles on video from over 100 years of New Zealand cinema. In recognition of the partnership with Te Puna Toi, our Vaccess facility has a strong focus on performing arts related short films, documentaries and television arts programmes. Vaccess is a popular resource not only for researchers but also for tertiary and secondary students, and the general public. It is open Tuesday through Saturday.


nibeleheim

Nibelheim*

Nibelheim is a rehearsal and performance space located in the basement of the Old Library Building in the Arts Centre (entry South Quad).Special Topic courses are sometimes taught there.

University Theatre*

The University Theatre is located on Rolleston Avenue in the Arts Centre. It is equipped with digital lighting and sound systems as well as video projection.

Old Queen's Theatre*

Old Queen's Theatre is a teaching/rehearsal/performance space, and is located on the second floor of 120 Hereford Street (near the Colombo Street intersection). Entry is down the alleyway beside Colley and Robinson Optometrists.
